DIY – Lip Balm

By  |  2 Comments

I am addicted to lip balm. My children are addicted to lip balm. Which is all good and well until you realize (or remember) that at some point, your child is going to eat it. I think it’s in the “how to be a kid” handbook some where. As many people move towards making products for themselves for health or financial reasons, lip balm can now be added to your list of recipes!

You will need:

10 lip balm containers, coconut oil, beeswax pastilles, any essential oil you may want to use for scent and shea or cocoa butter – you can find all of these with a quick internet search. I do recommend Chemistry Store. Not only are they very nice, but they are in Cayce. So you can go pick it up and save time and shipping!

1. Melt 2 tablespoons of coconut oil, 2 tablespoons of beeswax pastilles and 1 tablespoon of cocoa or shea butter in a glass bowl set on a small pot of water that is slightly simmering – not boiling. Stir gently and carefully until it is all melted and smooth.

2. After the ingredients from step 1 are ALL melted, add just a couple of drops of your favorite essential oil. My favorite is peppermint. Make sure that whatever oil or oil combination you use is safe for lips!

3. Transfer the mixture to your containers using a dropper.

And there you have it!

Hi Jean! I don’t know specifically, but I would guess 6-12 months. In our house, it doesn’t last that long. You could always give it away as little add on to gifts.
