Around the House

3 Quick Car Tips for Life with Kids

By  |

Life with kids is a circus. And most of the time our cars look like wild animals have been living in them. I get overwhelmed at the idea of tackling it ALL at once. So I’m starting with simple, bite-size tricks. Baby steps to get tackling the chaos. Each of these things was super easy. And I only used things I had around the house or grabbed at the dollar store. No crazy, expensive, funky things needed.

Quick Car Tips Kids

Tip #1 – Repurpose an old wipes container to old plastic bags. Keeps them all in one spot and easy to pull out one at a time when needed.

Tip #1 Bonus – I also have an old wipes container in my car holding a water bottle wrapped in a towel. Why? Because if a mess is going to require a towel and some extra water, I am going to want to put that towel back in a sealed container after I’m done using it.

Tip #2 – Baskets an easy way to keep things slightly contained in your truck or car. Our tip is to add some no-slip cabinet liner to the bottom to keep them from sliding all around.

Tip #3 (my favorite) – We all have little zippered bags around. Make-up bags, pencil bags, sunglass cases. If not, you can grab them at the dollar store which is where I grabbed these exact ones. I didn’t photograph it, but I have sunglasses in one, pens in one, hair ties in one, etc. I was even able to attach a small notebook. Connect them ALL together with a keychain and through it in your door’s pocket or center console. No more digging around for pens or lip balm. You’ll know right where it is!

My biggest thing is, if at all possible, make sure you or your kiddos if they’re old enough take the 5 minutes after each trip to get all of the day’s stuff out. That includes toys, books, trash, anything that they brought in goes back out!

Excellent advice! I’m queen of being in a hurry and thinking I’ll get it later. Next thing you know, it’s a train wreck.
