Fun, Free and Educational – Take the Cell Phone Walking Tour in Downtown Lexington!

By  |

Thanks to the museum for sending us some additional information …

The town partnered with the museum to create a cell phone walking tour, which means
you can take it at any time. The town has erected signs around the downtown area
(mainly between Church and North Lake) that features a telephone number. If you call
this number on your cell phone, you will be prompted to enter the stop number you are
at (which will be listed on the sign). When you press that number, you will hear a
prerecorded message that will tell you information about the structure you are standing
in front of and maybe a little about the history of the town (depending on which stop you
are at).

They were able to get many of the town’s leading citizens to record the narration,
including Judge Tommy Rawl, former mayor Hugh Rogers, Mr. Raymond Caughman,
etc. The buildings that will be featured on the tour are (listed by what they currently are):
the old courthouse, the Walker and Morgan Law Firm building, Cribb’s Sandwich Shop,
the Palmetto Collegiate Institute building, the Carpet One Building/old Shirey’s Furniture
building, St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church, the BB&T building, the Nicholson Davis
Frawley Law Firm building, the Simmons-Harth-Gantt House, and the Home National
Bank building.
